Local Reaction to Attack at Istanbul Airport

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Local Turkish groups said they are still in shock following the attack at an airport in Istanbul after three suicide bombers opened fire and then set off explosives at the airport on Tuesday.

More than 40 people died and more than 140 were injured. The Turkish government blames the attack on the Islamic State group.

We spoke with the Director of the Turkish Cultural Center in Syracuse, who said half of his family lives in Istanbul, including a pilot who was at the airport that day. Luckily, everyone was okay.

The director said terrorism has become a global issue, and the center is doing what it can on a small scale.

“We always need to put our efforts into the love. I always tell my members that we have to match the efforts of these people doing the evil in the world, we have to match their efforts, and we have to try harder than them to build the peace and understanding in all this,” said Tim Saka, Turkish Cultural Center Director.

This was the latest in a series of bombings in Turkey over the last few months.
