Celebrating Ramadan Together!

Queens Library hosted a special end of Ramadan celebration for the children of the neighborhood on Saturday July 18th. to mark the end of Ramadan and the Eid al-Fitr (the Festival of Fast-Breaking). This is a three day holiday, during which time it is tradition to give to those in need, and to celebrate with family and friends, the completion of a month of fasting, blessings and joy.

Children of all ages and from all cultures attended with their parents to enjoy a day of fun, food and activities for all ages with face painting, children’s songs and poems, stories about Ramadan, and Turkish sweets and beverages for all. Events like this are designed to bring children together in a fun environment to teach them respect and tolerance for one another regardless of the color of their skin, ethnic background or faith.

Attendees were also treated to a demonstration of Ebru (water marbling / water painting) which was very popular and all the children left with a goody bag too!
