A Muslim Perspective on Religious Extremism and Terrorism

One of the current global threats to humanity is terrorism. Extremist groups use inhuman means of violence against men, women, and children. They take religion as their reference to justify the terror against humanity. Unfortunately, these groups continuously recruit youngsters from all over the globe.

In order to address this issue and let everyone hear Muslim voices to condemn terrorism, The Turkish Cultural Center in collaboration with the Interfaith Center of Albany organized a lecture on Religious Extremism and Terrorism at the University at Albany. Our guest speaker, Imam Ibrahim Sayar, the Director of Interfaith Center for the Peace Islands Institute of New York presented a powerpoint presentation explaining the historical and theological backgrounds of these extremist groups in Muslim community. He compared the interpretations of these groups with the teachings of the Quran.

Imam Sayar also answered the questions of the audiences after his presentation.

About 100 people from many different faith groups attended the lecture. After Question and Answer session, participants enjoyed the Turkish food.
