7th Annual International Childrens Day

Combined with sunny skies smiling and happy faces 7th Annual International Children’s Day festival was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Long Island. Program conducted in Molloy College Madison Theatre was the scene of joyous moments. Approximately 600 Turkish and American guests attended the festivities. Outside activities, began at noon with food service. Guests were served with unique tastes of Turkish cuisine. Farm animals, face painting, balloon show, and stand activities of the participating countries gave a colorful look. The program continued with the stage shows later on.

Colorful folk dances from Turkey, India, Poland, Bosnia Herzegovina and South Africa amazed the audience. The magic and the bubble show created different enthusiasm for kids. Flower and frozen song show prepared by the Weekend school students of TCCLI received great acclaim. Since the program was on mother’s day, mothers were not forgotten. Mary Gubitosi a former teacher from long island amity school was awarded mother of the year by the students of weekend school. TCCLI president Mr. Sadri Altinok presented Mary Gubitosis award. Mary expressed her happiness and satisfaction for having Turkish friendly people.

Among other guests the New York Assembly member from Long Island ‘ Democrat Party Deputy Minority Leader,’ ‘ Phil Ramos was given the Turkish friendship award. Mr. Ramos voicing his thought and feelings said that this friendship between Turkish community and himself have for many years occurred on mutual trust and friendship. Mr. Ramos expressed his satisfaction of being friend to Turkish Community and expressed how happy he was to give wholehearted support to all activities done by TCCLI. Mr. Sadri Altinok thanked the awardees and to all participants of this joys day. Stated his appreciation to all who took a part in this day. The program was ended with happy moments with kids receiving gifts and flowers were handed out to all mothers.
